Online Newspapers Challenging The Traditional Print Paper Hard Copies.

An online newspaper is an online version of a traditional newspaper. Sometimes these online papers are the republication of the paper based news or sometimes they are independent to them. Online news publication business creates more interactive opportunities for a media house; they can compete with broadcasting television media more effectively. This is because latest breaking news can be broadcasted in the online version of a newspaper instantaneously.

What advantages does reading an e-newspaper offer?

A reader can benefit in many ways by reading an online newspaper instead of a paper based one. He can always get the latest news and happenings at any given point of time in the day. With internet becoming a vital and an essential tool for living in today’s e-world; online newspaper is the thing of the present and the future. Most online newspapers are free to read on the paper’s website, this is also a very appealing prospect for a keen reading enthusiast. From a newspapers point of view, online newspaper is cheaper to broadcast than hard copy papers. This is because it involves no printing or distribution cost for the newspaper company. Advertisements rates on online papers are much higher than traditional papers because of its interface and graphic usage advantages. Most importantly for a newspaper company, the reach of an online newspaper is worldwide, it is not bounded by geographical or distance boundaries. For example a person sitting in Free Town, Sierra Leone can read the online version of Times of India at any given point of time. With hard copy papers, this was very impractical and impossible to occur.

What are the specifications in an online newspaper?

Like a hard copy newspaper, an online newspaper can be designed in a way that it looks like a virtual newspaper. This design and format is almost adapted by every newspaper website to make the viewer’s feel like they are actually reading a paper. Some online papers simply use the traditional website designing templates and create a news website. They have many segments, like a newspaper, covering all the various news sections. For example; headlines is the homepage and there is links to other news sections like top news today, sports, business etc.

Environmental factors also play a part in selection of an online newspaper.

As we know traditional hard copy newspaper is made of paper of course, and paper comes from trees. So shifting to online newspapers can save millions and millions of trees, which in turn will help us to preserve our environment for the future. It is wide world news today that many trees are being cut to satisfy human needs. Many environmentalists have raised the concern of wastage of paper by many people; because of this nowadays even Indian Railways are encouraging people to carry an e-ticket rather than a hard copy ticket. Think of all the paper and subsequent trees we can save in our planet if we all shift to e-newspapers.
